(461) LOU CHRISTIE : FROM DOO WOP TO LIGHTENING STRIKES

Christine here : Frankie Valli with the Four Seasons wasn't the only singer hitting the high notes and the charts. But there must be something about Italians in the Eastern United States. Lou grew up in the Pittsburgh area and was once a member of the University of Pittsburgh Glee Club. Doo Wop required a full range of voices or ranges of voice to create that harmonious blend and though Lou will be the first to tell you that he kind of got stuck hitting those high notes - because he could - he has a full range and came out of the Doo Wop. (Try not to confuse Lou Christie with the New Christie Minstrels, the folk group that launched the career of Gene Clark of the Byrds, and several others.)
Today Lou lives in the Palm Springs area where he is active singing for his special cause - Brain Injured Veterans of the United States.

VETERANS DAY : CAN'T HELP THINKING ABOUT BOB and DOLORES HOPE
It's Veterans Day and as you know I am proud to be a veteran myself and proud that my brothers and father also served - so many of my ancestors did - even in the Civil War.
I can't help but think about Bob and Dolores Hope and their work to entertain the veterans. Bob passed at age 100 in 2003 and last year Dolores celebrated her 100th birthday.
Bob Hope put countless hours into shows that entertained our service men around the globe that he was by an act of Congress given THE FIRST "HONORARY VETERAN" AWARD!

(87) ELVIS and VETERANS OF THE UNITED STATES
Elvis Presley was a proud veteran of the U.S. army and a patriot, as I am, as my brothers were, and my father too (WW I). Some of my ancestors also served in the Civil War.
Elvis and I came from a tradition in which military service was honorable. Elvis didn't believe than any entertainer should be political openly. But I can tell you this, he was for the veteran. He gripped when veteran benefits were cut. And my guess is that today, whatever his feelings might be about the War in Iraq, Elvis would stand behind the veterans who serve there.
