THE VOGUES - LONDON AMERICAN RECORDS

A couple of my recordings were also pressed by London American Records for sales and distribution in Britain.  The Vogues were an American group, also known for their harmonies, that invaded Britain just as the British invasion of America came to the United States.  Like the Righteous Brothers, many of their songs were very romantic.  Those were the days!

WATCHING THE E-BAY AUCTIONS FOR WES BRYAN "MEMORABILIA"

We watch the e-Bay auctions from time to time to see what's for sale up there under the "Wes Bryan" heading.  When we first started to blog, there were just a few Wes Bryans with web presence.  There was the DJ, the Christian Minister, and a Real Estate developer.

Now there are several more, with Facebook, Twitter, and other accounts, and on e-Bay, under the Wes Bryan, search comes some items related to the football player, Wes Bryan. 

So we're glad we titled this blog WES BRYAN - MY LIFE IN MUSIC, to separate all those Wes Bryans out a bit! 

In the last weeks, to our surprise there has been a lot of e-Bay action on Wes Bryan records and pictures from the beginning of my United Artist singing - acting sensation days, including a Hep Cat magazine, pictures of me in Central Park and sculpting (these were taken by my then manager and used as part of the United Artists promotions), as well as pressings of my songs that I recorded at Roulette in New York City, some of which made it to be re-pressed in England for London American Recordings, demos and the final products sold in stores.  The bidding action was heavy on these with sales at over $35.00 per item.  Interesting!

(300) HONEY BABY and DAVID "BABY" CORTEZ

Looking at all those labels, I'm reminded of being on Clock and then having the song "Honey Baby" pressed in England for London American label. Someone I remember, a truly nice man, over at Clock was David "Baby" Cortez who was one of the writers of "Honey Baby" for me.

He had his own #1 record on Clock in 1959, an instrumental, called "The Happy Organ." His birth name David Clowney is the third name on the label.

Dave and Wally Moody over at Clock were so successful, they had about 10 number one hits in the late fifties - 1959. That was the most for any medium sized label in the nation.

HONEY BABY ON LONDON AMERICAN RECORDS

The third name over of the three man songwriter team is David Clowney also known as David "Baby" Cortez who had a hit record with "THE HAPPY ORGAN." I listened to it the other day for the first time in many years and you know what? It still makes me happy to hear it.

I wrote the song on the flip side of this one, "So Blue Over You."

SO BLUE OVER YOU on LONDON AMERICAN RECORDS

When I recorded for United Artists, I wrote the song "Freeze." Then "So Blue Over You" was the second song I wrote and recorded on a record, originally on Clock out of New York City.

I didn't know it then, but this was moving my career into being a composer! It was a career that paid my bills and then some! I love the creative process and collaborating! Wes

Here's a recording I originally did on Clock Records appearing as a demo for radio play, I believe, made in England on London - American Records. At the time, I didn't know how I got airplay in England, but I knew that American Rock and Rollers, including the Everly Brothers, were popular there. Cliff Richard was the "English Elvis."
