(457) THE VOCAL HALL OF FAME : A NEW ONE FOR US!

At this point we pride ourselves on our extensive links and we thought we knew about a lot of HALLS OF FAME, virtual or museum-like, but exploring harmony and some of the great groups of the mid 1960's that were recording great songs with great lyrics and using harmony, we came across the VOCAL HALL OF FAME! It's a real museum in Sharon, Pennsylvania and their site, which we hope you will check out, has a calander of events in music history, information on the Doo Wop groups, and so much else, we're really impressed and know our readers will be too!

|Christine here. The song "Turn Around Look At Me," which is a Classic Cover Tune if there ever was one, was recorded by many regional recording artists who had success with it. (I think I first heard it on the radio as recorded by a group called The Skyliners.) The Vogues song that especially stays with me is " You Are My Special Angel," which came out in '68.

They had 48 hits in the 1960's and have worked their magic for 60 + years! In recent interviews he's talked about how the music business has changed and in particular how difficult it is to get a record played anymore.

By 1966 they were considered to be "Folk singers."
Other singers, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, were also considered Folk singers.

They have a lot of song samples which remind us of so many great songs we loved and love!

FROM OUR ARCHIVES : (158) THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS : TREMENDOUS HARMONIES
Probably no other duo on earth has ever had the sound of the tremendous harmonies of Bobby Hatfield (who went to that Big Jam session in heaven himself in 2003) and Bill Medley (who is still performing!). Their music was not just harmonious, it was romantic - heartbreaking sometimes.
The Righteous Brothers were not brothers at all, but brother acts and a brotherly unity (even a fraternity unity like Elvis and his entourage and closest friends) were popular then. Phil and Don Everly were the prime example but the Smothers Brothers were also out there honing their country music and comedy. (Some people used to think Buddy Knox and I were brothers when we toured, even though we looked nothing like each other.)
Now, if you'll use the search feature of this Google blog you can see that we've posted on the brothers before in the Phil Spector -Wall of Sound blog. Here is more information on the Brothers... and more music to listen to...
