The song as you remember it, even if you are looking at the plastic record right this minute and are reading from the label, may have been sold since it first appeared for sale in record stores, and the older the record is, the better the chances that it's moved from one publishing house to another, or now has split publishing represented. The reason is that buying songs for a publishing house account are kind of like buying stocks! The buyer knows that some songs are going to pay for years, others for special use, others because a new performer has re-recorded, and some will just settle, but are a part of a body of work.
This is one of the reasons you accept a disclaimer on the BMI website before you search for the owner of an intellectual property, because there are always changes going on. An intellectual property attorney is sometimes needed if there's any question.

There's more legalese after that. Disclaimers are on other such sites too... we're just using BMI as an example here. The cataloging process is never ending. The changes are never ending. We don't know how they ever really catch up!

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN? (WE TKB to MAKE THIS BLOG EVEN BETTER!)
"GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN?" "That's the title of a song I wrote!" Wes
Friends, we have been Blogging here on GOOGLE since August 2007 and technology has changed, demanding that we upgrade and fix technology glitches IF WE INTEND TO HAVE THIS BLOG UP on the WONDERFUL WORLD WIDE WEB - The Internet - AS AN INTERESTING, READABLE STORY, A GREAT RESEARCH TOOL, and A LASTING TESTAMENT TO THE EARLY ROCK AND ROLL, ROCKABILLY, and COVER TUNE ERA.
WHILE WE TKB (TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS : That's ELVIS talk!) please use the Google search feature to read old posts, leave comments, questions, and ideas or e-mail us.
We have all sorts of things to repair and update and so that's just what we're going to do:
We're going to try to get that RSS feed unstuck without loosing it all over.
Many of our videos need replacement, so we are going to start with the earliest and go from there. Some of these videos have expired and others simply need to be replaced with new code so you can read and listen ON YOUR CELL PHONE! Youtube has also gotten rid of the color frames for embedded videos and so our blog needs a more consistant look...
SPEAKING OF DESIGN, also, we are sitting on the fence at this minute about upgrading along with Google templates and editors knowing the day is coming when we won't have a choice.
We're getting reports like "your title is across your picture" (thanks Cousin!) but that's on a cell phone or an older browser. Some people are reporting problems with our Flash Banner or our Streaming Video. We know that everyone doesn't have the latest computers and upgrades to view our blog.
Christine looked at this blog on several different terminals - different sized screens - etc - and cell phones and saw various views. And we're trying to make it work for everyone but are concerned that if we go all the way with an upgrade some of you might find things less functional rather than more enjoyable.
Again, your feedback is welcome!
Christine Trzyna and Wes Bryan
UPDATE AS OF MARCH 2011 we have the first 150 posts of this blog updated, including new code for video so you can listen on your cell phone.
